MURALS
I have been painting murals for the past seven years, a practice that began somewhat unexpectedly. The thought of working with paint on a large scale had always felt intimidating to me, however, after being asked to paint a large electric box in San Diego’s vibrant North Park neighborhood, I quickly became hooked.
Since then, mural painting has become one of the most meaningful parts of my creative practice. I love that murals often exist in public spaces and naturally invite connection- people regularly stopping to chat as I paint, sharing bits of their life and story. These spontaneous moments are beautiful reminders of our shared humanity and of the larger purpose that murals serve in our communities.
Murals are a powerful tool to reflect a neighborhood’s values and identity, evoke a sense of pride in our communities, and encourage people to take ownership of their shared spaces. They work as a catalyst for bringing people together, brightening neighborhoods, and uplifting moods while strengthening the connection between people and the places they gather.
